The Hughes-Jones Centre for People & Animals:

The proposed Hughes-Jones Centre for People and Animals will fill a unique yet untapped market in the Prince Edward Island horse industry as well as the counselling / psychotherapeutic / preventative program arenas through collaboration and research.

In our infancy the Hughes-Jones Centre will cater to at risk youth providing a preventative program (Horses Helping Youth) of learning and personal development through horse and farm related activities.

Themes of self-esteem, self-awareness, leadership, responsibility and empathy would be reinforced through working with the large animals and providing their care under supervision. Our Horses Helping Youth program would work to complement programs already existing in schools and youth groups throughout the island.

Research is vital for this and all other horse related programs! To ensure future funding, responsible program governance and development we must document our successes and challenges .

The Hughes-Jones Centre will support, collaborate and encourage research in any way possible throughout our growth.

Plans for growth would incorporate a larger age range and aim to include different therapists to work in collaboration with the Hughes-Jones Centre to develop therapy modules to benefit their particular client base. Examples of these programs are (but not limited to): Horses Helping Veterans, Horses Helping Sexual Assault Survivors, Animals Helping Seniors, Horses Helping Teachers and Animals for a Cure.
